How to play hangman

Letord picks a secret word. Every dash is a letter. Click a letter to guess. If the letter is in the word, it appears in the right place. If not, the drawing gets one more part. You lose after 8 wrong guesses. Guess all the letters before that and you win!

Tips to win at hangman

1. Start with common letters. In English the most common letters are E, T, A, O, I, N, S and R.
2. Try the vowels first. Almost every word has A, E, I, O or U, and they show you the shape of the word.
3. Look at the pattern. A word like _ E _ _ E _ only fits a few words.
4. Think about endings. Common endings are -ING, -ED, -ER and -S.
5. Avoid rare letters. Q, X, Z and J are risky early guesses.
